Re: blue smoke at startup

All that means is that you have parked the LT on the side stand.
The motor is "laying on its side" therefore the oil runs down hill.
That's why they have a centerstand

Re: blue smoke at startup

You parked it on the side stand. That in itself will not cause the blue smoke but if you do park on the side stand hold the bike level or slightly right after shut down for a few seconds to let the oil drain from the cylinders. The pistons point down and the oil will leak past the rings and burn on startup.

1. Oil slipped past the rings into the combustion chamber.
2. Blue smoke from burning oil. See #1 above.
3. The smoke should not last long as the oil burns away quickly.
4. Blue smoke on startup has been considered 'normal' for K-series motors for around 25 years. Coincidently, the mosquito population seems to have dropped...
5. Several factors may reduce smoking
a. Park on center stand.
b. Shut off engine, count to 10 before leaning over on side.
c. Interplanetary alignment. Consult an astrologer for details.
6. Mine has never smoked as much as my old T500 Suzuki Titan!

Re: blue smoke at startup

Thanks everyone. I had to put it on the side stand last night cause of the street grade it was parked on. I always use the center stand, but i could not last night. Thanks again!

It means you have the "Mosquito Deterrent System" option installed?

Blue smoke at start up that means the engine is worn out and you need to sell it FAST. I'll give you $500.00 cash and I even come up there and pick it up

Re: blue smoke at startup

I can park mine in the garage for weeks on side stand, no smoke. I can park her for 2 minutes in a crowd of bikes and it looks like you are burning a tire when you start up.

Re: blue smoke at startup

OMg the proverbial smoke on startup..

I can pick it up and try to bribe , er steal, er figure out the problem. I will take her off your hands and baby her , for about $ 626.23.

SHe can be a skeeter beater at times... It is true- lay it on her side stand and nothing. Get around some HOG riders and ya cant see them for the smoke rolling off, fogging everything...

Re: blue smoke at startup

It's only smoke if the cars behind you can't see your brake lamps.
Otherwise it's "character".
