Will 2006 LT seats and backrest fit 2001 LT

Hello all,
I have a 2001 LT that could use new seats and backrest due to TX sun damage....I have access to a seats / backrest from a 2006 LT. Does anyone know for certain if the 2006 seats will fit my 2001? Also the 2006 seats and backrest are heated, my 2001 does not have heated seats or backrest. Can I gain heated seats and backrest out of the deal? Is my bike pre wired for heated seats? Is it just a matter of getting heated seats/backrest wiring harness for a few $$$, adding wiring harness, seats, and plugging them in?
Thanks, Steve

Seats from 99 to 09 are interchangeable. You might have to trim some of the plastic from the tupperware under the seats using the '06 seats on the '01, but that should be it.

Hi Steve

welcome to the forum!

Usually people ask the opposite - does the old model seat fit the newer (post 2005) bike. The reason for this is that the majority of people consider the old model seat more comfortable than the new seat which has been reshaped fo enable also shorter riders to reach the ground.

Now, to your question: Backseat and passenger backrest should fit without problems, they were not reshaped during the facelift. Riders seat will not fit without some modifications to the tupperware just under the seat. During the facelift the seat was not the only thing that was reshaped, also the plastic pieces under the seat were somewhat altered as well. If you have access to a Dremel tool, the modification should not be too difficult to do.

As for the heating wiring, I don't know, but there are experts on this forum who will soon chime in...

BTW, I'm sure your old seats would still have some market value as there are many new model riders who would like to have their seat(s) redone by one of the custom seat makers (KonTour, Russell, Rick Mayer etc) I did the exact thing few years ago, bought old model seats, had them rebuilt by Russell, and installed them into a new model bike. And then sold the new model seats...

As far as wiring, the riders seat just needs switched 12V and a ground (brown wire). The heat is controlled on both seats but switches on the seats The same goes for the pillion seat but you will have to rig up a feed back to the backrest from the rear seat. That is what the third wire is on that connector, it feeds to the backrest.

Maybe you should just send your 2001 seat to one of the seat guys and have them rework the seat into some thing more comfortable and modern. I use Rick Mayer and LOVE the difference. Good luck!
