1999 k12lt stereo dead ?

Hi New LT owner here ...

Got my bike last weekend
stereo worked fine for 2 days ... now nothing but lighted on/off button. Fuse is checked ok.

Last Monday I Rode to work , Bike got rained on . Stereo worked ok on ride home.
Prev owner told me the CD changer hadn't worked , like it had no power , couldn't eject magazine
ok fine , he had never tried cassette player .( used to show 'no tape ' on display )
Note he also said Comm unit acted "funny".

I wanted to try cassette, but that unit also acted dead,
no power tape transport action or noises.
After manually removing cassette, radio would not come back on,
but ALL lights on the stereo control were lit with the key turned to 10 0clock ?!?!?!

Next day , lights back to normal , just the on/off button is lit .
one week later , no changes

HELP ?!?!

Any suggestions , seems the Cassette attempt was what killed it . ?

You could have blown the fuse in the back of the unit. There is also a fuse under the rear seat. I would check there before taking the plastic off. But, my money is on the fuse on the back of the unit.

Unfortunately, you'll have to strip all of the plastic off to get to the radio.

Here are the directions- clicky clicky

The radio and the final drive are the LT's Achilles Heel. It's a very common problem.

Good Luck! This site is a great resource!

Disconnect the bike's battery for several hours (2 or 3), then reconnect and see what happens to the radio. Been a fixer for several folks throughout the family. HTH, and good luck.

And hey, it even worked for Matthew!!!

Before you go tearing the tupperware off, try pulling the battery terminals off, wait 10 minutes, hook it back up. Worked for me......

Re: 1999 k12lt stereo dead ?

Greetings oldwingratbike

I too have an awesome '99LT. Now does yours have the GPS readout pod on top of the tank or was that not included with your bike? If it is, now this is just a stab in the dark, ensure you have the little black toggle switch down towards the "audio" word and not up towards the "GPS" word. I've caught myself out a few times and had a heart attack thinking my music system has died when in fact I've just forgotten to change the toggle switch over from GPS to Audio. Or....it could be something more involved. It's just an idea.

Good luck and keep hunting down the problem if I can't help with the above.

Cheers.
