DDMTuning HID Kits?

For a 2000 K1200LT.
Should I order the upgrade to 55W ballasts (option $15.00) or use the std. 35W ballasts ?
Low beam H7 ?
High beam H3 or H11 ?
Sounds like the low beam is plug & play?
Has anyone installed the high beam from DDM is it a plug & play or a cut, file, grind out head light housing and glue the light in?

I was also looking at a low beam kit for my LT. I heard that the low beam install required no plastic to be removed, just wanted confirmation before I order a kit.
Hopefully someone will answer these questions.

Re: DDMTuning HID Kits?

You have to drill a hole in the back headlight cover which is attached with a metal clip. It's no big deal if you have a drill and a good spade bit or step bit. I have the 35 watt from DDM and it's all I need. Personally I wouldn't do the high beam but consider getting the dual lamp kit for about an extra $20.00 you can have a spare bulb, ballast, and igniter. Yes, it's pretty much plug and play. The hardest part for me was installing the bulb itself do to working inside the nose cone where it's hard to see. I did pull the right panel to zip strip the ballast and igniter to the side of the air intake but you could do it without removal.

Re: DDMTuning HID Kits?

I have the 35w hi and lo hid bulbs because 50% of my riding is at night, I can easily show people in cars in front of me their shadows at midnight when they don't like to move over when I am behind them... I wouldn't worry about the 55w

Re: DDMTuning HID Kits?

These are the specs for the stock lights according to the service manual 1999-2003:

Technical Data K 1200 LT:

Lights:

Headlight: H7 tandem headlight with free-form reflector and manual beam throw adjustment

Bulbs:

High (main) beam headlight: H3 halogen bulb, 12 V 55 W, asymmetric

Low (dipped) beam headlight H7 halogen bulb, 12 V 55 W asymmetric

When you find the correct upgrade please post the purchase details, specs and part number(s). I'm interested in upgrading mine as well.

Thanks,
