Not "normal", but there are some of us who have ridden on LOOOONG trips.
Don Arthur, Coni, Edgar, Ken, Tom and Rosie, myself, and a few others. When you ride 6-11,000 miles in just a few days, oil addition may be needed. Especially if you are on an Iron Butt ride and cannot take time to have the oil changed.
