Re: How long do they last?

Sounds like he took care of it and got his hundred out of it..

You can count on the same if you take care of it as well...

Re: How long do they last?

With regular (and proper) maintenance, several have logged over 300,000 miles on their LT's.

Re: How long do they last?

Don Arthur was heading out to ride the Iron Butt Rally (super intense riding for 11 days) when someone pulled out in front of him and the bike was totaled. He had well over 300,000 miles on it, and trusted it enough to carry him through the rally. Sure wish he had made to the start! He is OK now though, but not riding much at all. Too busy with his new job.

Re: How long do they last?

Tom: I have a 2001 K1200LT, purchased new, August 4, 2001. It currently has 203,000 miles on it. I ride daily and also utilize my bike for most business trips. Many/Most of my long business trips have included towing my 2002 BushTec trailer.
In the 200,000+ miles, I have gone through the normal, perishable items and have experienced several of the mechanical "issues" which are frequently the subject of discussion on this site.
The basic engine has been (gosh, do I dare say this?) Bullet-Proof! Again, I ride everyday, year round. I go most anywhere without giving it a second thought - other than the normal "pre-flight" check.
As mentioned and discussed here, Proper Maintenance of one of these bikes, if done at a BMW shop, is an expensive proposition - no way to get around that at all. That is why you will read so many times here, experienced members encouraging the rest of us to "do-it-ourselves." there are a number of resources out there, not to mention the rather long list of very capable people on this site, that can be a huge asset in getting you started on the proper and regular care of this machine. Take advantage of it.
Thats it enjoy the bike!

Re: How long do they last?

I would be interested to know how BMW maintained bikes do against DIY maintained bikes. I would guess the latter would fair better.

Re: How long do they last?

Have an 05 LT bought new May 04 with only 171,000+ due to the short riding seasons in this part of the world. The motor continues to live up to it's name the "flying brick", has been the most solid part of this bike. All other areas are repairable. I love the bike and trust it completely due to the wonderful staff at Gina's BMW in Iowa City, IA. They have done the majority of the maintenance.
