Reinstalling intake cam problem.

I removed the intake cam to swap a couple buckets and can't get the sprocket back on the cam. I tied the chain to the sprockets and have not turned the engine.

The sprocket for the intake cam needs to come up and out about 1/4" to go on the end of the cam and I can't get it there. I've run a long wire tie through the sprocket to pull on but there is no slack in the chain to get there.

I assume the cam needs to be installed first and then attach the sprocket whick i have done.

Help!!!

Re: Reinstalling intake cam problem.

When I swapped cam gears on my 05' i had this problem even though I had the 1/8" drill bit in the tensioner. What i did was take a long flat scew driver and push down on the inside of the cam chain and that made enough slack to get it back on, it didn't need much either.

Re: Reinstalling intake cam problem.

Joe,

The cam chain tensioner will eventually give you the slack you need. Just keep a firm easy pressure on the gear, and she will slide on as it bleeds down. You did tie the cain to the lower spocket as well I hope? Another trick is to put your 19 mm wrench on the lower cam and rotate it to get the slack you need. (Rotate the wrench UP).

Re: Reinstalling intake cam problem.

Take the wrench to the bottom cam and move it till the top sprocket will go on. Voila! Problem solved.
