B or VB what is the difference?

I am going to go ahead and by a HF tire changer and start doing my own tires. presently I have a metzeler marathon 880 120/70B17 on the front of my 05 LT which requires Bias ply tires. I am making the assumption that the B stand for Bias???? I went to Ron Ayers to look for the front tire and all they list is the 120/70VB17. is this a Bias ply and what is the difference between B and VB.
Thanks all

Marc
"B" is for bias and "V" is the speed rating "V" =149 MPH
I have ordered tire in the past that only listed the "B" on the website ,but all of them had "VB" on the tire when I received them.
Also make sure you get a good balancer.

Cool Re: B or VB what is the difference?

Forget the beads and get the Marc Parnes balancer. Find the heavy spot on the wheel and mark it. Tire on properly and balance. No big deal to balance but I did not care for the beads.

Re: B or VB what is the difference?

Metzeler website only shows the following for the ME880 front tire.

120/70 B 17 58V TL
120/70 R 17 58V TL

One is a radial, one is a bias ply. If you're using a bias ply on the rear, then get a matching bias ply for the front.

For the rear tire:
160/70 B 17 M/C 73H TL
160/70 B 17 M/C 79V REINFTL

As we all know, we need the reinforced tire for the LT. The other tire doesn't have the load range nor the V speed rating.

Be careful if you (or your tire dealer) might be dyslexic. Metzeler also makes the following tire, but it won't fit on the LT.

170/60 R 17 M/C 78V REINFTL

The numbers are similar and it is a reinforced tire too. But the tip off is the radial construction.

Re: B or VB what is the difference?

If you are ordering from Ron Ayers the VB is the one you want. Been there, ordered that, got the right tire.
