Just got a new brain.

My News Years day ride was cut short. It just stopped running. Had to trailer the LT to my local dealer. They replaced the main computer (to the tune of $1600, under extended warranty, thank you God).

Anyway... Just rode it for the 1st time this Sunday. My friends (on Harley's) said they smelled gas at the red lights. And it got an abismal 34 MPG through 350 miles.

I'm going to call the dealer and take it back in this week, if need be.

Any tricks to make it correct itself?? Like disconnect the battery and click my heels together 3 times? Or twist the throttle 4 times with the key in the on position? Or... just take it back to the dealer and let them fix it!

Thanks and safe riding,

Paul - Houston

Here's a procedure.. to use when battery needs replacing.
1. Pop the riders seat
2. Disconnect negaive lead from battery
3. Disconnect positive lead from battery
4. Loose screws on battery clamp and remove
5. Remove battery clamp
6. Remove battery
7. Insert battery
8. Install battery
9. Install battery clamp
10. Install battery clamp screws and tighten
11. Connect positive (red) battery lead
12. Connect negative (black) battery lead
13. Turn on ignition key
14. DO NOT start motor
15. Turn throttle to full open and close 2 times
16. Repeat Step 15
17. Turn ignition off
18. Turn ignition on
19. Start motor
20. Wait until motor idle leaves out
21. Turn off ignition
22. Reset clock and radio if needed (Haven't had to do it on mine yet on a battery change)
23. Ride to your hearts content or you need to replace battery again.

Hey, Chann - couldn't he just pull the Motronic fuse (bottom fuse in the fuse box nearest the brake side of the bike) and leave it out for 15-20 minutes; reinsert it and then do the TPS dance to see if it helps the situation. Least that's what I do on ole Toad - a '99 model year. Not sure where that fuse is on newer model year bikes.

QD's ??

This one's a 2003 model, BTW.

I disconnected the battery and tried the procedure. Seems a lot better now. I did not get a chance to ride yet, but it did not smell "gassy" when I started it. I'll take it for a good ride and check milage on Saturday.

Thanks everyone!

Thumbs up Re: Just got a new brain.

Ahhh! QD's... quick disconnects. Yeah, just replace both of them 3Q08. They are fine.

Thanks again!
