LED Luggage Rack lights

I have looked through the forum and didn't find the answer so if I missed it please excuse.

I am looking to replace the stock brake lights on the luggage rack with LEDs. A friend's LT has them and they really help you see him. Does anyone know of a source and what I should purchase. Thanks in advance.

Have a great ride,

Re: LED Luggage Rack lights

They should already be LED from the factory. Unless you have an after market rack then all bets are off.

No, it is the factory luggage rack. Thanks very much for letting me know. Figures I would ask a ridiculous question.

Re: LED Luggage Rack lights

Hi Guys

yes they are leds already and very bright, but how ever,, i have started modification frency and took advice from my Finnish friend Ari who has done tons of mods to his bike and i did similar version with different colour lights.

Took off the rack

To able to open it took for a while

Drilled holes for 3, 3V LED and used 0.830ohm resistor (red dimm lights in the begining) later changed them to be bright yellow

Installed LED lights and solder them

After testing them, that they are working used HOT clue to keep them on place.

Again test them before re-assmbling the rack back to it's place

Now in the dark, with out original LED on place, that picture i forgot to take

I can say that they are really bright and relatevly easy to install,,i mean if I can do it,(Im with out official electrical knowledge, self studied (thats why i flew off few leds in the begining, but hey thay are so darn cheap anyhow)

Just on thing was, what i almost forgot,, as original (Red) LED cabling is going from Left side, when facing forward, small grinder is to be used and grind place to 4cable cord, it's easy and just take few minutes, then i clued(hot) again that in the place in few areas,so it' wont pop off during re-assabling.

The only rediculous question is the the one that goes unasked.

Dick

Similar
Mine is stiff 1ft light bar x 4.
It will be ammounted by doubble side tape together with screw's to LT tuppeware, i'm gonna take power from pillon's heated seat connector as that is NOT required here in thailand, so there will not be accidental power drainage.

Hi Dick,

Yeah, I'm still here (my latest kit is a new brake/tail light that mounts above the license plate). If anyone wants to do that LED mod to the luggage rack, and needs parts, let me know. I have lots of LEDs and resistors.

Re: LED Luggage Rack lights

Larry

I would be interested in the Mod.

I have a brake modulator already hooked up, but am willing to put anything on that looks tasteful and will help me be seen.

For those of us that are electronically stupid (that is why I specifically went into Mechanical Engineering and not Electrical) are there instructions for the not so gifted?

PM me the parts list and cost and we can do bidness. (Pictures would really work too, if ya got them)

Thanks

Not quite. See the attached. You lower the license plate (very easy) and cut a hole for the light. Full instructions on my web site.

Thats awsome,, hard to miss that one,,, btw,, in that Aris LT pictures, white LED lights are connected to reverce gear switch acting as reverce lights and below them are red colour LED's what actually are for additional brake lights

Edit: Larry
