Deactivating Alarm and Immobilizer

Recently someone posted the manual for the alarm system in gif images, Thank you very much, but now I am sick and tired of having to push that button to start my bike, plus if I ever lost the thing I would screwed.

I am diciplined enough to lock my saddle bags and handlebars if I feel the need to it. So is there a particular key conbination I can hit to completely disable the thing....pleaaaaase!!!

Or do I need to take to BMW Service

Thanks in advance gang.

See the programming section of the manual and follow the directions to set it to mode B. This turns off the automatics and makes the fob an on/off switch.

Good luck.

Ditto the original post. The alarm is a pain in the butt in the auto mode.

I have tried several times to deactivate the thing, but can't seem to hit the combination.

Copied form the old HOW site

Use at your OWN risk. An extract from the K1200LT alarm installation booklet.

First - Find the programming plug under the seat. The cable is a brown/white cable with a plug on it.
Raise the riders seat and look under the passenger seat it should be visible. You will need to connect this plug to a ground connection (like the battery) so find/build an adaptor. A length of wire with a small alligator clip works well

On the remote, the ridged button is the "A" button. The smooth button is the "B" button.

To Enter Programming Mode:

1) With the ignition turned off and the alarm system armed - press the "A" button to deactivate the alarm (parking lights flash once. Within 12 seconds, ground the programming plug with your adaptor.

2) Press the "A" button twice. You'll hear two beeps, then a long beeping tone. The turn signals will flash twice and the LED will go off.

3) Turn the ignition on within 12 seconds but don't start the bike! The beeper will sound three times in succession at different pitches.

The programming function is now ACTIVE:

4) Remove the ground from the programming plug.

5) On pre-'03 bikes, there are 10 channels to program using the "A" or "B" buttons.
Only 5 are used by the K1200LT - Channels 1, 5, 7, 8, and 9

You program the channels by pressing either the "A" or "B" button until you have pressed 10 buttons.

Channel Function "A" "B"

1 Beeping Tone ON Off
2 Free
3 Free
4 Free
5 Panic Alarm ON Off
6 Free
7 Tone Type Beep Steady
8 Automatic Immobilizer ON Off
9 Automatic Alarm Activation ON Off
10 Free

After the 10th choice programming is complete you will hear three consecutive beeps

6) Turn off the ignition. The beeper will sound three times at different pitches.

Note that the system is now armed.

NOTE - If automatic Alarm activation is selected then Automatic Imobilization MUST also be set on.

Here's how many people like to set up their alarms:

1 "A"
2 "A"
3 "A"
4 "A"
5 "A"
6 "A"
7 "A"
8 "B"
9 "B"
10 "A"

And this is what it means:

1 - Beeping Tone ON
5 - Panic Alarm ON
7 - Tone Type Intermittent
8 - Auto Immobilizer OFF
9 - Auto Alarm OFF

IMPORTANT NOTE: Looks like they did change the alarm programming sequence for '03, there are 12 settings as opposed to the 10 previously:

1 Unused
2 Unused
3 Unused
4 Unused
5 Unused
6 Panic Alarm (used to be 5)
7 Unused
8 Tone Type (used to be 7)
9 Beeper Tone (used to be #1)
10 Unused
11 Automatic Activation of Alarm (was 9)
12 Automatic Activation of Immobilizer (was 8 - note alarm and immobilizer are reversed from prior instructions)

Kim,

The listed programming will not work on the 05. I had posted an excerpt from the 05 manual but I see it is no longer in the Hall of Wisdom. Will PM you a word file of it.

Exclamation An alternate procedure

FWIW, I have uploaded a revised WORD doc that explains how to reprogram the alarm system. In 2004, I downloaded a WORD doc from the old forum...but the procedure did not work for my '02 LTC. So, after an hour or so of 'trial and error', I figured out what procedure worked for me. Perhaps this will help another. You can download my revised document from this forum's file section.

Thanks a million. After going crazy trying to get my 2002 into Mode B , your additional imfo worked the first time.

The file was a little hard to download but finally got my computer to do it and print a copy to read as i worked thru your instructions.

Thanks Again,

I spent 30 minutes trying to find the programming plug on my 05, even entirely removing the passenger seat, and then gave up.

Am I going blind, or does the 05/06 not have one ?.

The '05 and up bikes don't have a programming plug. It is all done with the remote buttons. The procedure has been posted here before. I'm sure someone has saved the link and can share it.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Well that sorts that then.
Thought it might have been an optional extra !.
Look forward to seeing the info on how to use the remote only.

Simon,

Look in the "Files" section at the top right next to "forum", then go to "technical files" and look on page 2. I basically just regurgitated it from the manual some time back and it seems to have lost it's H.O.W. link so I posted it again. By the way I was in your neck of the woods back in 1987 when I was on the USS Nimitz - got a chance to go horse back riding in the hills some where - had a ball. I'll bet it is great for motorcycle riding there. Good luck with the alarm.

John,

Thanks for that.
Have printed them out and will give it a try tomorrow.

Things have changed quite a lot since 87.
I am a Brit who has lived here quite a long time and used to do business with the Saratoga and Forrestal but Nimitz was out of bounds.

The Navy was always welcome in Palma back then, and as you know, was probably the favourite R&R in the Med.
Local politics have since changed, and most ships now go to Barcelona.

For local rides I have a R1200C Cruiser and only really use the LT on trips to the mainland and further afield.

Will let you know how things go. If you hear an LT alarm going continously you will know they havenīt !.

John,

Success !.
It is nice to be in control of the system and not the other way around.

A point I will make is that it is important to press the smooth button 3 times INMEADIATLY after the Led goes out.

Anyway, thanks again,

Simon

Glad you got it worked out. It was my pleasure to share and help out. And yes, you can't hesitate when the light goes out or it wont work.

Denis,

Look in the "Files" section at the top right next to "forum", then go to "technical files" and look on page 2. The file is still there - enjoy.

05 Alarm

Just picked up my 05 from the dealer on saturday and they have the alarm de-activated and I did not find it in the manual. Will have to check it out as I want to get it working.

Thanks

After trying over and over I finally got the manual to work. To activate the Program Mode, the manual says to TURN OFF THE ALARM (Push "A" Button) and within 12 seconds, connect the program cable to ground. I would do this as soon as the blink indicated it was armed. However, the motion detector does not arm until 50 seconds so was not on. I waited at least 60 seconds, and following the steps, entered the program mode. I guess you can turn something off that is not on.
