and realize you have to stop putting diesel fuel in the tank!

All kidding aside... an issue with the fuel filter inside the tank would cause this, or a clogge or blocked canister hose.

I had the same thought, but didn't want to pick on the poor guy. However, I must admit that I'm still not 100% sure of what all he wrote in that post!

He wants to know if any one else has had the same problem.

He has a fairly new bike and its died on him a few times. Dealer replaced a valve. Now the starter spins, but it won't start.

I can't remember anyone else have a similar problem.
Yes, it could be a clogged fuel filter.

Re: continued issue with my lt1200

It really sounds like a "fuel" supply problem.

These bikes are "fuel injected".. that means there is a fuel pump to supply fuel at a specific fuel pressure and volume range.

The fuel pump power is "controlled" by a "relay". That Relay is, of course, electrically activated by the "brain"... affectionately called the "Motronic" or "Moronic" when it is acting up.

When you power on the bike, the Motronic will turn on the "fuel pump relay". The relay activates and in doing so, "completes" the electrical circuit ... which means it "switches on" the fuel pump.

There were some KNOWN bad fuel relays on the '05... they failed when COLD.. like sitting overnight or anytime they could cool below about 50 degrees.

If you are NOT smelling fuel, that's the likely culprit.... The dealer will fix it...

If you can smell fuel, the problem is likely with the "ignition" circuit.. It is controlled in the same manner as the Fuel, by the Motronic.

There are a couple other things that com to mind, but these are the primary ones... I don't know the history of your machine, (mileage/repairs/how long have you owned it/etc..) so maybe you could ask the dealer to "reseat" all the connectors on the bike... it will take a little time, but could fix the problem.... poor connections can wreak havoc on a machine so dependent on reliable electricity.
