Broken cruise control cable

My cruise control stopped working a couple K miles ago. Searching this terrific forum convinced me it was probably time to change the throttle cables. Well once I got her all stripped down it was very clear that the cruise control cable had snapped. So I have a cable ordered, but I'm wondering how it is disconnected from the cruise control unit. My Clymer manual merely says to disconnect it, not much help. I've search this forum and found lots of stuff on cruise control problems but not on the cables.

The cable goes into a plastic cover or boot that looks like it might have to be rotated to be released, but I'm not sure. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave Granzin

Make sure you upgrade your throttle cables as well.

Re: Broken cruise control cable

The cruise control unit is easily visible once you remove the left tupperware. You should see the cable clearly run into the unit. Check out the attached docs for the throttle cable.

Yes, that's exactly what you do. Turn the plastic piece about 1/4 turn and pull it out. The cable attaches to a cloth ribbon. Once you have it off, it's easy to figure out.

Re: Broken cruise control cable

I was so impressed with your "States visited signature" that I figured out to add my own. Interesting, I did not realize I had a hole right in the middle.
