Rear Speakers Not Working...

My rear speakers have stopped working. Unfortunately, I do not know when that happened, but it has been at least a month. In the morning when I turn the ignition on, they work for about 3 seconds before cutting out and they will not come back, even if I turn the ignition off and back on.

I've played with all the quick-disconnect plugs under the topcase, as well as those in the stingray.

Any other thoughts with the sparse information provided?

Thanks.

Re: Rear Speakers Not Working...

Given what you have tried I would say the rear amplifier chips are going bad in the head unit. Not much you can do short of replacing it.

Crap. Looks like I'll call a dealer and see what we can work out. I wish I could save up my warranty work for one big appointment, rather than several little ones

Thanks.

Re: Rear Speakers Not Working...

Both my left speakers quit. I only pick up about 2 radio stations. Dice unit won't work most of the time. CD player plays great. Radio maker said I need a new mother board at the tune of $400..... Now I just listen to my I-pod. I waiting on someone to replace a radio with something better.

Update

Dealer replaced entire head unit under warranty. Life is good, music from all 4 points of the compass.

As an aside, when I was waiting I heard one of the employees going through the specs of the LT to an interested party. Quoted the MPG for highways as 50+. I chuckled.

Cheers,

Why? I get right around 50 MPG regularly.

Re: Rear Speakers Not Working...

Should qualify that statement. For me, highway mpg means at least 70mph. 75mph is 4000 rpm equals 37ish mpg. Goes downhill from there. Tooling around at 3000rpm in 5th will probably give upwards of 50mpg, but not at a decent highway speed.

After my 6000+ mile jaunt to Canada, 38mpg was the average.

There are other threads on this, and your results may vary.

Cheers,

Re: Rear Speakers Not Working...

I removed the stingray to do the 48 k filter changes, speakers quit working. I didn't worry too much as I use the head set. So a while back I removed the body and stingray again, found everything properly plugged in, replugged everything and put it back together. Now the rear speakers work, front ones do not. I still think it is a plug issue, not a component failure. BTW, mine is an '05 with 50,000, warranty is long gone. Also have the VoiceII; lots of places for things to go wrong.

PS, I run at legal plus speeds, rarely get less than 40 mpg. At commute speeds of 65, get 48 or so (and these are adjusted for speedo error.) As always, YMMV.

Just old, clutchless and clueless

Re: Rear Speakers Not Working...

Those of you getting high MPG should consider yourselves lucky not to have any good roads to ride. What an awesome trade off.
Flat straight roads always equal high MPG.

I get around forty... of course I rarely see a straight road.

_ Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time, but always enough time to do it over?

Re: Rear Speakers Not Working...

For the speakers, both rears went out at some point, followed by the right front. Dealer determined was the head unit, and replaced under warranty.

Not to throw more fuel on the MPG fire (well, maybe a little), remember that I am talking about a cruising speed of 75mph (actual), which is at roughly 4k rpm. That puts it on the descending MPG function for 5th gear. If I had 6th gear, I would be a happy camper. Speeds below that your MPG will increase.

Oh, these are Florida roads. About as straight as you get. Unlike the dragon which is 318 curves in 16 miles, we have 16 curves in 318 miles (might have the numbers wrong but the point is valid).

I've got sound 2x2 and am happy.
