Finally did it. @#$%& and +*&^!. Turned into a slot at Home Depot and dumped it on the left side. The J-Peg punched a hole in the cowling under the rollover wing. Since this was installed before the PO received it, and is still under warranty, could I get a replacement w/o paying through the nose?

At least I thought I was dancing, til someone stepped on my tongue.

Doubt it, but you could always ask.

Most folks simply enlarged the hole neatly, then made a matching hole on the other side. Much cheaper, and you don't have to worry about dropping it the other way (at least, not quite as much).

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

The J-Pegs are not a BMW product. Besides, you dropped it so hard to claim warranty defect even if they did make them.

Get a local body and paint guy to patch it and order the cams from Raffy that prevent this in the future.

BTW, welcome to the club

Just had a brain fart! What about enlarging the hole to a size that a grommet
could be used to make it look like a "design enhancement", instead of a DA scar?

Re: New Member of the DA club

Don't know about the warranty claim, but welcome to the club. I've been riding since 1973 without a mishap on a road machine. (several downs on dirt and trail, but hey, that's what they're for, right?) Over 50K on my RT now and last summer dropped my LT at a busy intersection because I got lulled into thinking a guy with a turn signal on was actually going to turn. I had already started letting the clutch out and moving when I realized he wasn't going to turn. The quick stop, even at a slow pace, coupled with a downhill slant and the handlebars turned to the right threw the bike down with unbelievable force. A styrofoam cup full of Coke actually was launched out of my cupholder and into the grass beside the road.

Nothing was hurt except my pride and a quarter size road rash on the right pannier. Don't beat yourself up over it, there are those of us who have, and those who are about to.

Glad to hear you're alright, that's always the most important thing. Bike parts can be replaced, egos will mend, but keeping yourself safe to ride another day is the challenge. I think a good body shop can get you going again with good results. Loaned my RT to a good friend and he dropped it. He felt really bad, but a good body shop and $75 got the mirror repainted and it looks good as new.

Re: New Member of the DA club

Welcome to the club. I dropped mine Friday for the first time with the wife onboard ( dropped it before solo ---4 times) on Main street in beautiful downtown Brighton,Mi. I was approaching a cross street and a crosswalk, had a car waiting to make a righthand turn on to Main and a woman starting to cross the street from left. She stops half way so I decide to continue and then she decides to keep going across the street so I grab some brake to stop and down she goes, slowly, as I was able to gently ease her down. I turned around to see wife laying in the street and a large crowd gathering and a firetruck--- to make a long story short --- wifes OK, not happy but Ok, thank God for ATGATT, no damage to bike but my ego suffered greatly. My thanks to the Brighton fire department, who just happened to be there, for stopping traffic and making sure wife was ok and to the gentleman who helped me right the beast. We still continued on and had a nice lunch and a beautiful ride. Cause--- walking speed, both of us eyes left, apply brake and bike down on left side ---- Lesson Learned !!!! Oh Yeah, she still went for ride with me on Sat.
