Question still shopping!!!

Hi All;

I am still shopping for a 2005 or 06 LT and have noticed some differences with some 2005's I am considering.

Some have comm systems some do not. I thought the comm was a standard on the 2005's and up.

I was wondering, if I purchase one without the comm system,(some have other options I like, and the price seems good, except for the Canadian dollar taking a nose dive, down to .79 cents per US dollar!!!), how easy would it be to install one? Which one would do the job ( headsets, with rider, music, cd... etc..).

Would like to get one before the snow flies here!!! ( before middle of November).

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
Bowdon

Re: still shopping!!!

I've heard good things about the Baehr system made for the LT (plug & play). There is a company on E bay selling them for about $1200 (retails for $1500)

bought my 05 LT last September found it on E-Bay . You are right about the dollar . When I bought mine I think the Canadian dollar was at 97Cents . So I saved a bundle . I would do it again . If you ar serious about Importing into Canada go to riv.ca That web address goes through the steps you need to follow . My LT came with an AUTOCOM system which I have not been able to find the ear pieces & mike for yet .Where ever you buy your LT from ,you will love it . I'v put over 20,000miles on mine in just a little over a year . I use it to commute & whenever I need to go out I try to use the bike . Here in southern Ontario I use it all winter long weather permitting
Good Luck

Phoneix;

I have been on the site a few times, and have called for some info on importing an Lt in to Canada. They seem very helpful.

Just wondering how you made out with the paperwork for the US and Canadian customs when you crossed.
Did you ride or trailer the bike across?

I would like to ride, if I can find one in the next two or three weeks!!! ( its getting frosty in the morning in Montreal!!!

I have not found an 2005 LT yet, ( have some calls into two I like) but there is still no deal done!!! ( My wife said no BLUE ones!!! so its black, gold or silver) I would like a comm included but might have to get one this winter for a possible project if its easy to do!!).

Re: still shopping!!!

Bowdon,
Welcome..
I have never heard the Baehr... if you have the cash, go for it... Autocomm and Intaride are good.. I have the Intaride... and am very happy with it.. once I changed the speakers in the helmet....

You'll have to ask someone else about the Baehr sound quality... I've had the Intaride for several years and it just plain works...

I've got a dark grey metallic '05.. I like all the upgrades that happened this year. Now, I have "added" my own intercom, GPS, HID low beam... but it just works great!

I'm nearing 32K now... very low mileage..

Re: still shopping!!!

Channing, Shame on you. Raffy has been selling the Baehr gear for a couple of years now. The easiest installation on the LT using the LT specific unit, but not the cheapest by far. I have one on mine and I find it far better than the AutoCom that I had on the old LT.

Bowdon, you might want to go down and see whats in the Intercomm, CB & 2-Way Radio forum for some ideas on intercomm gear.

Steve,

Why do you prefer the Baehr? I've had my AutoCom for 4-5 years, it was easy to install and I think I like it. Just curious as I think about a "new" bike.

Re: still shopping!!!

This unit came on the bike when I purchased it, but with that said:

1. With the AutoCom unit you have to hunt in the wire loom to splice into the rear speakers for your audio, the LT specific Baehr unit just plugs in at the connector under the rear seat.

2. There a minimal adjustments on the Autocom, I can adjust both mike (VOX) and headset volumes separately, and some of the audio inputs so nothing is too loud.

3. I can set the priorities of what I cable in, i.e. cellphone over GPS over MP3/Ipod.

4. The biggest plus, is I didn't have to change out the ear pieces to the Platinum units from Radio Shack to get GOOD sound like you do on the AutoCom.

There are other good units out there, I just think this unit is LOADS better than the LT specific AutoCom unit I took off.

On the downside, Baehr needs to have an helmet attachment system like J&M does. I find that the cable pulls down over a period of time and the left headset speaker comes undone. I've read a post somewhere, where someone has purchased just that piece and the down cord to a 5-pin connector and it works. I'm going to give that a try and if it works, my only gripe against the Baehr system will be gone.

Steve

Question Re: still shopping!!!

Hi all;

It seems that the pricing of an intercomm unit varies in price ( autocom seems to be less pricey!!) and is a little more involved in the installation.

I still have to find a 2005 lt first!!! ( I would rather spend a little extra on the bike with it installed then doing the install myself) I am slightly electrically challenged!!!. And I will also have to install the speakers in the helmets!!
Once I find the bike, I will see what I will do pertaining to the comm systems.

Thanks for all the info on the comm systems.

Regards,
Bowdon

Re: still shopping!!!

Thanks Steve for the comparisons.... and Bowden, installing the intercom was quite easy. Two reasons to do it yourself:

1. Save a little money for other items.

2. You get to know the bike a little better. It seems a little scary at first but there is a lot of help available (do a search for installation info) and on line for immediate questions. The first step is the hardest and after you do one, you'll be available to help others. My AutoCom came with very detailed instructions and there was help on the site for other unanswered questions, which were few......
