Speedometer error

On my 2003 Lt, my speedometer is off by as much as 7 mph. Any way to reduce that error?

Yes. It can be made to be within 1 MPH pretty easily.

There is an article in the techincal section here:

Re: Speedometer error

I yanked my 00 board out and modded it--pretty simple, but time consuming.

The few times I went thru and area with a radar unit displaying speed, my speedo read the same speed as the radar.

Re: Speedometer error

Mine (2000 LT) is low about 5 mph as compared to the GPS. If I am in an area that I need to be extra careful as to not get a speeding ticket, I just use the indicated on the bike, knowing I am less than the speed limit. Othertimes I just ride about 5 mph faster and use the GPS. Haven't done any other modifications. Just something I can live with.
