Transmission clunk

I have only riden two k1200lts before and the first seemed to shift very quiet and smooth. ( bike had 4800 miles ) The second bike (19,000 miles ) seems to shift rougher and klunks into gear ( like my 82 wing did ) . It works ok and the trans does not make any noise when its in gear but I am going to buy this bike and I wonder if its normal to klunk a bit going into gear. Thanks for any advice you can give. ( both bikes were 2001 )

Re: Transmission clunk

Pretty common for BMW's. They seem to have a reputation for it. As long as it shifts well (going into gear and staying in gear well), then I would not worry about it.

Re: Transmission clunk

Try making sure you shift over 4K RPM; that'll smooth her out!

Re: Transmission clunk

Local friend has a new K1200S and it clunks. Dealer told him it was a K bike and K bikes clunk. K must stand for Klunk.
