Rear drive failure on an '05?

No, it didn't.

I started a thread about this some time back, cant find it now, but I'm posting this to stop the hysterics that I might have generated. The cause of the grinding noises in right (and left but not as severe) low speed turns was actually the rear brake rotor that was out of spec at 10k miles. It was replaced under warranty and the noise is gone. The accompanying vibration was nothing more that cupping of the ME880.

So we are all relieved that it was nothing to do with the rear drive.

I'll bet you dollars to a 12 pack of Krispy Kremes that the mechanic that originally told you:

"The local BMW mechanic has diagnosed the vibration/noise I have been experiencing as rear drive failure."

also told you that your "out of spec rotor" was "warped".

I don't give up easily, David.

Let the histrionics begin...
