Fuel light does not work.

On my LT, the light does not work at all. On the RS, it comes on at about 60 miles into the tank.

Am I looking at the same repair for both? Replacing the sending units?

How would I test them to see if they are the problem?

Thanks!

Re: Fuel light does not work.

Your units may be ok. I have issues with the gas tank crushing the sending unit tube so I get funny readings. I believe you can test the resistance as the float moves up and down. I am sure someone who knows about electrical issues will be along to help answer this question.

Re: Fuel light does not work.

As far as I know it could either be out of calibration, which I personally haven't done or there's a kink in the sending tube. That I've fixed. With a carpenter's square I pressed out the kink (which could be made with a gas pump nozzle pointed toward, instead of away, from the driver's seat) by turning the tube on the square like this:

Re-calibration can be done by a dealer, I'm sure.

Re: Fuel light does not work.

Recalibration of the fuel gauge is done with ModiTec at the dealer. When you know that you have about 60 miles left on a tank of gas, go in and have them reset the Motronic on the bike. That will turn your fuel light on at the same amount of gas in the tank everytime. At least that's the way it is supposed to work.

Re: Fuel light does not work.

Now WITH the dealer failed to mention the recalibration after my fuel gage no longer registered properly after they installed my fuel filter, after repeatedly asking why it did not work for the first time since I had the bike, is beyond me.

Appreciate the info!
