Question turn signal to running light

I have an 03 LT and am interested in turning the front turn signals into running lights too. I inspected the turn signal lenses and am wondering if the (sorry, don't know what to call them) 2 pronged bulb holder that fits into the lense can simply be exchanged for a 3 pronged unit with a different bulb?

I know the newer models have running lights.

I know I would have to run a hot wire (probably from the headlight running light) to the 3rd prong to power the runing light.

My question is this: Will the ruberized bulb holder that fits into the lense from a newer model fit an '03?

No, you have to use a dremmel tool to make the hole large enough for the combination socket. I did this for my 03--the result is worth the work.

I'm sure there are several threads with details on how to do this. In short, I bought the sockets from my BMW dealer, cut out the opening the the turn signal housing until the new socket fit, and ran a wire from the small parking light bulb in the head light assembly for power for the running light. Piece of cake...

you can get the sockets from your local auto supply store as well, I took the entire lens with me and had them match up a socket for me.

I burned out a headlight this summer. I saw that little light shining inside the headlight. That's a parking light?.........

Re: turn signal to running light

I used to modify all my street bikes in a similar fashion by rewiring the bulb sockets. Now i just replace the flasher with a Kisan module. They're around $100 but besides running lights, they give you several optional programmable features like brake flash. Easier than rewiring and works with older BMW's too. (No relation to Kisan)
