Mystery Part...? Identifed by 1jusbil1 ... Thanks!!

I just got back home from the Finger Lakes Rally at Watkins Glen, NY.

While there, I ran into 'Officer Bob', a long time Beemer Guy and LT rider.

He's on a 3rd hand LT that replaced one he crashed last year. When he learned I had an LT also, he asked if I'd look in his cowl and ID a part he and his dealer can't.

Its a little Black Box, glowing LED, looks like a little speaker on it too.

I suspect its a power source or....?

If you can figure it out, I'll buy you a drink of your favorite color!

Thanks for playing.

Okay, let's see....

So far we have:

2. A GPS Unit (Power Supply)

4. An Alarm (?)

Hmmm, 1 and a 1/2 so far! Come on guys, the collective wisdom here is HUGE... Put on your thinking caps!!

Looks like a 3rd party security system or maybe a tracking device if the bike is taken. Without tracking the wires to something it is really hard to say.

Another VOTE for an Alarm...maybe you boys are on to something!? That makes Four for an Alarm! Alarming isn't it.

Does ANYONE have one of these things? (Ask your friends)

Thanks for thinking about this, it is appreciated.

The owner is not a DIY kinda' guy, and his dealer does NOT want to mess with it. I did a cursory look-see and couldn't find where the unit was getting power. Those leads did not go back to the battery. I was on a tight schedule and couldn't (also wouldn't) start stripping a well running bike down at a weekend rally!!

1. Too small for a flux capacitor, but then again, if you're only time shifting a motorcycle....better stay away from 88 MPH until you are sure.
2. Bad spot for a GPS unit.
3. Could be, but where is the C4?
4. My vote is for an alarm of some sort.

Obviously an active device since it has an LED. Does the LED light/blink? When? Are there other wires going to it other than the small ones out the top? Does the bike have additional lighting?

Can't be a flux capacitor. Needs 1.21 gigawatts of power to activate!
The C-4 is molded to the underside of the seat and the detonator is remotely triggered by GPS as the bike approaches Area 54.

It's a hard wire kit for a satellite radio. Eliminates the cigarette lighter adapter and steps power down from 12v to 6/5v depending on which radio you've got. Look here:

WOW! That looks exactly like the little black box I just installed on my LT. As I remember (I did it about 4 hours ago) the little black box on mine converts 12VDC to 5 VDC for my Sirius Satellite.. I know this for sure cause the instructions said hook the two (2) wires marked INPUT (+) and (-) to a switched 12 V source and the other end plugs into the little bracket for the radio.
