Brake Failure : Flashing Light

I'm a new owner of 2004 LT only 8k miles.
The only maintenance that I've performed so far is an oil change (with the help of this forum). I also had the front tire replaced.
For the last few days, when I down-shift to stop, the Brake Failure light begins to flash and doesn't cease until I shut down the bike.
The brakes feel fine and the brake fluid reservouirs look fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Brake Failure : Flashing Light

If you have a flashing general warning light alternated by the ABS light, then one of the reservoirs is a little low. There are two chambers in the reservor located under the rear seat near the front of the saddle bag. Each one is monitored for fluid level and often adding a teaspoon of fluid will clear the fault.

Thanks, John.
I'll pick up some brake fluid and let you know the results.

Make sure you top off both reservoirs.

Re: Brake Failure : Flashing Light

I too, have this problem on a regular basis. I was checking some other forums and one suggested that the problem of sensitive warning light was caused by the battery not being fully charged. Since then I have put "Smoopy" on a battery maintainer when I am not riding her and the problem is much less evident.

If you want to test this theses, turn on you heated seat for a while and when you hit a bump, the brake failure light will probably come on.

Re: Brake Failure : Flashing Light

Thanks to this forum I was able to avoid a trip to the dealer when this happened to me too. I found it a little difficult to get to the forward part of the reservoir, but removed most of the screws on the plastics that are in the way and then it was fairly easy to get to.

Custom sig temporarily unavaiulable while I think about it.

Re: Brake Failure : Flashing Light

Check your battery. My brother in law an 05 LT that had the same problem. Plenty of amps to start the bike, but not enough to satisfy the ABS.

I had the same thing on my '02 K1200LT/ Hannigan ,it had a 2 year old Odyssey 680 in it . It would crank the motor over good , but the ABS/warning symbol wasn't happy . I put a westco in it ,and all is well . I have had a Odyssey 680 in my '95 R1100GS for 6-7 years , and it is still going strong . The GS has ABS 2 , the LT power brakes , so maybe the power brakes takes a lot of power / or wants a lot of power in reserve .
I put the Odyssey 680 in my garden tractor , and it is still running strong 3 years later .
