Gas gauge problems

I purchased a new 09 LT recently and when I filled the gas tank for a long trip, the gas gauge didn't show full for about 40 KMs and the estimated mileage readout took at least 60 KMs to read what it should. What gives ? Did I over fill it ?, because on the next fill-up every thing seems ok.
Thanks for your responce

Re: Gas gauge problems

I don't know why but mine has done that occasionally, as does our car. I think the system doesn't reset itself properly or something like that. I don't think it's anything to worry about unless it keeps happening.

I had the same issue a couple of times when my bike was new. Seemed to occur if I filled up while on the sidestand. It didn't happen again so I thought it "fixed itself." Also, I usually fill up while on the center stand. It did happen again once this year while I was on a 6,100 mile trip, again if I recall while it was on the sidestand because of a non level gas station. I've decided it isn't worth the aggravation of tying my bike up at the dealer for only this issue.
