Self-canceling turn signals?

Mine don't always do so after a turn.

Are they adjustable?

BMW hasn't figured out self cancelling signals. That's what the switch near your right thumb is for.

The cancel feature is based on speed and distance traveled.
This is why you notice the signal goes off as you cruise down the freeway and had set the signal for your upcoming turn. The faster you are going and the distance you travel at speeds, determines when the signal goes off.
At a dead stop the signal will never turn off, give it a few seconds to turn off after your turn from a stop.
Of course, you always do have the option to use the button on your right to turn them off as you like.

Re: Self-canceling turn signals?

My observations are you get 13 flashes when traveling above 35 MPH and it runs continuous at speeds below that.

Cool Re: Self-canceling turn signals?

My wrench explained it this way: They flash for 1/10 of a mile and/or at least 15 flashes.
When I am going home I hit the signal at the DOT turn sign and no matter how fast I am going it will cnx at the same spot or later. Been doing this for 67,000 wonderful miles.

Thumbs up Re: Self-canceling turn signals?

Safety First,

I always turn off the signal as soon as I have made the corner.

The cars coming from the other direction could think you are turning and turn into you.

just something I think we should all do to avoid accidents.

Re: Self-canceling turn signals?

Gold Wings use a similar system but also have a tilt sensor which will over ride the distance sensor.

We had a death in the Twin City a couple years ago of a experienced rider where a car pull out in front of the bike. The driver say that the biker had his turn signal on and she thought he was turning.

I think about that ever time I forget to cancel the signal after the turn.

Re: Self-canceling turn signals?

Mine does 13 flashes "at speed" as stated above. I've counted as many as 34 flashes at low speeds.

In urban areas, where there are various places where you could be mistakenly indicating a turn, I self-cancel immediately after my turn.

It works better when you are out riding in more open spaces. Also, try signaling a little earlier, then it will cancel sooner after your turn.

I also ride a GS which does not have self-cancel, so I am really in the habit of just hitting the off switch myself.
