Garmin GPS Question

Any of you guys have, like say, 2720, 2610, etc., Garmin?

My bike is all wired for one, I just need a head unit. Watching some on eBay, and the specs say (under "missing items"): missing code,

Do your units require a code to turn on and work???

Thanks

Re: Garmin GPS Question

I have a 2720..............
Do not need a code to turn on unless the owner sets one..............
probably talking about the unlock code used to load software..................
probably not a good one to buy...............

Re: Garmin GPS Question

Actually, you don't need the unlock code, because the first thing you should do with these units is buy the current maps and upgrade the unit. Cost about $65 or so from TVNav.Com.

I wo9uld not recommend anything less than a 2720 though. Forget about 2610. Just not cost effective.

I bought a 2720 this way, I got everything but the cover. If you browse around you can find different units form the same vendor. Some have more than others, but of course go for a higher price.

I think in the GPS section here or Related issues on the BMWST.Com forum there is a mention of the 2820 for $208 from a company. You may want to check that out too. The 2820 is much better than the 2720.

When I bought my 27xx it fogged up with condensation every so often. Not serious, but bugged me. Called Garmin and they didn't hesitate to give me a 2820 as they said that replacing it with another 27xx would not solve the problem. The 2820 had no such problems here in the northwet.

I was suprised at their quick response to give me an upgrade and not have me just try another. After discussion it was clear that I was not the first.
