Accessory outlets

I need some help diagnosing a problem with the power outlets on my 2003 LT. For an added comfort factor for my wife I bought Gerbring heated jacket liner for her but I can't get it to work.
When I check the plugin with a DVM I get 12V going from the center contacts (+) and the outside ring (-) and when I use the adapter and plug the jacket in to the car outlet it works.

It seems that the ground is not contacting the jacket plug.

My wife REALLY likes the bike and she could have use the liner on our recent trip. We had the temperature drop ~30 degrees in less then 5 minutes then it started to rain.

Is there different style of outlets that are put on the LT?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Accessory outlets

Does anyone have any help on this one or a direction for help?

Would someone in the Chicago area let me try their outlets to see if my heat controller works on that bike?

Re: Accessory outlets

I have the Gerbing and run their connection direct to the battery.

Hi Steve,

Anytime you want to try them out on my LT just let me know. I'd like to see your new ride. I'm just north of Rt.59 and I-88.

Re: Accessory outlets

Are you sure you are using the correct plug on the Gerbing? The BMW outlets use the Powerlet plug not the more common cigarette lighter plug. That would account for seeing power at the plug and not to your jacket.

Did you buy the jacket from a BMW dealer? Someone else may not have known you need the powerlet adapter. As a recommended alternative in the inside pocket of the jacket is a power cord that connects directly to the battery connections and has a plug on the other end for the Gerbing. I use that and just run it out from under the seat.

Thanks for the replies,
I have thought about selling the controllers I have and getting the ones that mount permanently, I want to keep the bike as clean looking as possible. I also do not like the driver outlet down by my leg.

Jerry, Maybe we could connect this week or weekend? I am on vacation until 8/3.
