Dudes

Hi Guys,
Great forum i have been lurking on this site for a few weeks now,
anyway i bought a year 2000 k1200lt a couple of weeks ago and
so far love it,the weight of the beast i have not so far found a major
problem, although it was one of the things about the bike that worried me prior to buying it.
I am in the uk and my bike was imported from the states in 2005,so who
knows it might even be even be a former steed of one of you guys from this
site.
Anyway no real mileage yet,but on friday 11th (yep two days time)i am going with a friend to the Black Forest in Germany ,so i should put a couple of thousand miles on the bike.
Great bike,Great site,Stay Safe.

Andy

Thumbs up Re: Dudes

Welcome Andy...hope to see posts from you from time to time. Let us know how the trip went.

In 1965 the roads in Germany were great but I didn't have a LT then. Ugh!

Make it a safe ride!

Bought used K1200LT number 3. This one is green/teal with 31,369(now 7/29/2018 54,143) miles and is an '02. The first 2 bikes made it to near 150,000 miles.

Due to heart health, the Dr says not to ride under 40 degree air temp. Ugh! Now it is harder to get my 18000 miles a year in just in the summer. Guess that stopped my 20 degree rides now.

LOL.......isn't this site great??? You'll find that I'm not the only loose nut here.

I can't remember the brand of bike I rode, but it had a shift lever on the left side of the fuel tank. Been tooooooooooooooo many years ago. US Army gave me a free view of parts of Europe.

Hi Andy,

Have a great time in Germany. I did a similar thing, bought the bike about 3 weeks before a 3K mile tour to Bavaria and back. First couple of days two up with all the luggage was a little nerve racking, but soon got used to it. My scarry momment came in Berchtesgarden, had to ride up a steep slope to get to our hotel over looking the town, front wheel came right up off the floor, and had to quickly drop the screen, stand up and lean forward over the tank to keep both bits of rubber on the tarmac. Lucky I had a spare pair of pants with me.

Enjoy the bike and tour, and don't forget to take a few pictures.

Rgds
Mike

Re: Dudes

Your ganna love the Black Forest. I just got back from there last month on the LT. The LT was built for those sweepers.
There is an excellent BMW dealer who sorted me out in Stocken if you need them.
If you dont have your routes planned yet, try the Upper Black Forest and lower Black Forest roads. The clock route is fun too.

Re: Dudes

I don't think there's any on that rock (haven't been there to check!) but there's a few around ..

There's a run not unlike your Alps one in Hobart, Tasmania called Mt Wellington .. not quite as much snow though!
