Valve Cover Gasket

As many know from my many posts, getting ready to do my 24k. Pretty sure I will need a new valve cover gasket (or at least one on hand in case). Is this a BMW dealer item? Haven't come across it on beemerbonyard yet...

Part # would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

Re: Valve Cover Gasket

Part # 11121464823

$23.80 at Chicago BMW

my dealer never seemed to have them in stock. Mechanic stated that they never changed them.
I re-use them 2-3 times.

Re: Valve Cover Gasket

I got real lucky last valve check. I undid all the cover bolts then went to eat lunch. When I came back the cover had separated (there is a small spring under it) cleanly from the gasket. The gasket (with the little dabs of sealant) was still firmly set to the head.

Usually I knock it off with a rubber mallet and this always loosens the gasket from the head. Might give it a try. Either way the gaskets are re-usable you just have to clean off the sealant at those key locations and re-apply if it comes loose from the head.

I bought a new one in preparation for my 24k service. When I got the girl opened up and cleaned the old one, I could NOT tell them apart. I guess having a spare is the right thing to do. But, now 40,000 miles latter, I don't know which one is which and they BOTH still look new!!

Re: Valve Cover Gasket

I'm hoping to not need it as well. Better to have and not need then to need and not have. Plus it's not too expensive. Just need to order that and some QDs and that's it.

Thanks for the part#. BTW, is it the same for all K1200LT model years?

Re: Valve Cover Gasket

I wouldn't replace the valve cover gasket unless you need to. And you don't have to buy BMW's high priced gaskets, just buy the silicone seal "the blue stuff" and use that. It works great.

Re: Valve Cover Gasket

Ordered the gasket. I don't plan on changing it, but would like one on hand. I hate to admit it, but I just realized that the realoem.com parts fiche has my 06 on it. You just have to select the LT/M. I was wondering why it stopped at 03 .

Thanks for the quick replies.
