Satellite radio buzzes

I have installed a XM radio in the oddments box and when I have it powered ( not on but plugged in) I get a real loud buzz in the intercom. Before I dig into it, any suggestions or any rules of thumb for wiring audio? Stay away from Motronic? Get power somewhere specific? Use right side of bike to avoid interference? Etc.

Re: Satellite radio buzzes

Would that be a ground loop problem?

Re: Satellite radio buzzes

You need a ground loop isolator. The XM and the bike intercom are fighting for the fastest route to ground as they are both powered off the bikes battery. They make special cables with the isolator built in or you can make one yourself if you can solder. Radio Shack sells the ground loop isolater for about $3

That sounds right. I should know that from my car stereo install days. The one at Radio Shack is $18 unless you're seeing something I'm not?
