Aux Radio function

I just installed the cable from the back of the radio to my oddments box. I was so hoping I could just plug in my IPOD and be ready to go. No music through speakers. Bummer. Lot of work to get to the back of the radio. That's OK now I know how to do it thanks to this web site. I read in a post after I got done that it wouldn't work with an Autocom setup. I have Autocom. Any suggestions? You guys out there rock for ideas so I'm sure you'll help me with this one. You've helped me through every problem I've had so for with the best bike on the planet. Help please!

Re: Aux Radio function

Did you "select" AUX on the radio? Press the CD button and step through until "AUX" appears in the window.

Re: Aux Radio function

You did not say what year it was. The new cable connector should have plugged into the lower right side connector (looking from the rear). Pinouts should follow this convention:

1 -- headset out, right channel
3 -- headset out, ground
4 -- AUX audio ground

6 – headset out, left channel
7 -- power ground
8 -- AUX audio in, right channel
9 -- AUX audio in, left channel
10 -- +12V power -- controlled by radio ON button

The bold listing is all that should be in your AUX cable. If you do get it working the audio level on this input will be lower than the normal radio. Many of us have added an auxilliary amp to boost it up to the same level.

Re: Aux Radio function

The model year for my LT is an 05. I really don't know what the pinout numbers are as there was only one way for the cable to plug in. Yes it did plug into the only open slot in the back of the radio. I got the part number for the cable form this website.

Re: Aux Radio function

I just installed the aux cable a couple of weeks ago for a satellite radio and I too have an autocom system and everything works fine so I don't think the problem is that you are using an autocom system, maybe the aux cable isn't plugged in all the way.....

Also JZEILER, could you tell me what type of auxiliary amp you used (web site, part #, etc) to boost the volume level? I haven't been happy with the ones that I've found while searching on the internet. Thanks!

Re: Aux Radio function

I have the exact same issue, same cable, and same bike year (2005). Switched to Aux, and I get nothing out of my iPod.
I will be tearing the bike apart to install 2 HID in my Ducati Design and reroute some cables. I'll check the cable connection at the back of the radio... again.

Re: Aux Radio function

I think you will have to get a pre-amp. If I plug my 2730 directly into the AUX cable I have to turn the 2730 output to 100% and turn the radio volume all the way up to hear anything with it parked in the driveway without the motor running. You just don't have enough out put to drive the factory radio without an amp.

Re: Aux Radio function

I used the Canakit CK-154 Link

I mounted it above the radio and bent the controls to feed through the plastic cover over the radio. I could hear things fine (mp3 & XM radio, I don't have an I pod) but if I switched back to FM radio it was way too loud so I used a simple mixer to feed all to the amp and the amp to equalize the input. Now everything is at the same level.

I have it on an 05 as well and I just used a standard two row 0.100" connector wired up as I indicated in my ealier post. I was using the AUX out to feed the auto com but it had too much noise and I couldn't adjust the tone level.

Re: Aux Radio function

Thanks for the link John! So this is what I need to increase my volume while using the satellite radio? Does it come with instructions for someone who is electronically challenged?

Make sure the plug goes in all the way in the back (:-)) and locks in. If it does not lock in, it does not work. Also you need an amplifier such as boostaroo.
