Helicoil Size????

I need to repair a stipped Crankcase Cover screw (thank you cheap Harbor Freight torque wrench). I have never used Helicoils, I tried the permatex stuff but did not come close to holding (perhaps a bad batch or something). Is there a specific size I need, do they come in metric, somebody educate me!

Cline

Helicoil sizes refer to the size of the thread which I wouild imagine is a M6 x 1. If can be more accurate what bolt it is i could pull it from my engine and let you what size it is. If you then beg/borrow or buy a kit you will get a drill, tap and inserts. Google helicoil and you may get a local supplier.

Try using a timesert:

www.timesert.com

They work better than helicoils, as they are a full insert, not just threads.

Re: Helicoil Size????

use the helicoil and have an experience mechanic of a machinist install it for you. the insert type require that a larger hole be drilled.
