Stiff throttle/reverse query

Wahhhay! just bought a new (to me) K1200LT (my THIRD!!!). It's an early (UK s-reg) 1999 bike with just 27,000 miles FSH etc. It's a cracker and runs like a dream. I have just found two minor problems.
Firstly, the throttle is pretty stiff. Now I know there are some throttle cable issues with early bikes, but searching through the site I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I have a cable oiler so will have a go at them tomorrow. Is it just a question of taking the cables off the grip or do they split further down?
Also a (possibly related) issue with the reverse.
Put the bike into reverse and thumbed the starter button, the bike started to move backwars and the revs rose to 2000rpm, the revs fell, rose again to 2000rpm, then it seemed to disconnect and the reverse light started flashing.
Any ideas/advice much appreciated.

Re: Stiff throttle/reverse query

Many posts about both of these items - give it a search.

Cables should not be lubed - they are teflon coated on the inside. You might check with the dealer to see if you bike was part of the cable recall, but after this amount of time I wouldn't expect them to do it for free. Best advise is to replace the cables with the updated design.

The surging reverse is a common problem - has to do with a pinched hose IIRC

Re: Stiff throttle/reverse query

I had my throttle cables replace last year on my 99 and it made a big deference.

Re: Stiff throttle/reverse query

There has been a thread about lubbing cables recently and the consenses is that the cables are lined with teflon and this swells when in contact with 'normal' oil but okay with silicone based lubes. The other problem sounds like your reverse speed sensor is U/S and this is an easy fix.

Re: Stiff throttle/reverse query

Thanks chaps. Lubricated throttle cables with silicon/graphite based lubricant...MUCH better.
Can anybody point me in the direction of the reverse piched hose thing (pics would be great)
Thanks.
