Re: Radio Question

Can you explain in more detail by what you mean that you need to identify the radio? Your radio should have the cassette player in the oddments box. The later year LT's (2003 and newer) started coming with a single cd players.

Re: Radio Question

Yes it does have a cassette player in the box. I need to change the cable that my headset plugs in. The plug as come apart. I have been told that the 2000 may have one of several radios in them. I saw a name on the cassette player, but didn't know it that was just the player or system name.
Thanks

Re: Radio Question

I believe that it is a Becker radio. I do not know the model number. Do a search on Becker and you will see a lot of items.

Re: Radio Question

If you have a headset jack on the bike, you have an intercom system of some sort. It would be possible for you to have either the BC-1, BC-2, or BC-3 (built by J&M) or even one of many after market ones such as an Autocom.

First look above the Cassette player and let us know if you have a unit above it with switches or knobs. This will tell us if it is BMW or after market.

Ron

Re: Radio Question

Thanks for the response.
I have buttons to turn on select radio/cd anyway you get the idea.
On the cassette player it says

BMW
Professional RDS
Audiooyctem(this may not be exact spelling do to scratch through the middle)
Sorry about all the questions but I am a real dummy with this bike lol. Thank God for this forum.

Re: Radio Question

Even if it had the CD player instead of the tape deck, it's still a Becker unit.

In order to get at the unit, you will have to strip the plastic on both sides and the dash unit itself. In all, plan about four hours to replace and reinstall.

I've attached the directions for the tupperware removal process. It was posted by another board member a few years back. I printed a set out on card stock and then laminated it for extra durability.

In your post, you didn't say what issues you were having. Is the unit not working? It could be just the fuse in the unit itself. There is one under the seat but a second one in the back of the radio unit. Again, you have take
everything apart to get at it.

I'm now on my third radio repair. Luckily for me, this time it was just a fuse. You can get a tape deck off of ebay or parts reseller for approx. $175-$250. New, over $500.

Good luck and welcome to the board!

Re: Radio Question

Thanks for the reply.
Thanks a whole lot for the attachment, I've seen that once and lost it.
What I need to do is replace the cable from the radio for the head set to plug into. On my bike the plug has come apart. I was hoping to find out which radio unit I have before tackling the tupperware. Wanted to do that once.
Thanks again.

Re: Radio Question

Time out, guys.

If he's talking about a headset plug then he's referring to an intercom system, which is an entirely separate unit from the Becker radio.

So Ron nailed it, and we need to find out which of the myriad of "factory" intercoms Jay has. Then we can see where to go next.

So here's the rundown. Note that the dates given are not bike model year related, but rather approximately when the unit was introduced.

BC-1 ('99, made by Sikom of Germany who is no longer in business)

BC-2 ('00, also made by Sikom but with better VOX controls)

ComSystem ('02, made by J&M and mistakenly called a BC-3)

VOICE I ('04, short lived unit usually sold outside the US)

Voice II ('05, current factory intercom made for BMW).

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
