Should I drill the slave?

My new '02 LT with 24k has never to my knowledge had an issue with the clutch or seals. With the "low mileage" of a 6 year old machine, would it be wise to drill the weep hole? I'm capable, but, not sure if I should add that to my list for this spring or wait until next winter to dive in.

Re: Should I drill the slave?

Check the maintenance records with BMW first. It may have had the slave cylinder replaced already. As for seals, the main seal on mine took 6 years and 63k miles before it leaked. I'd drill the weep hole in the clutch housing and ride it.

Re: Should I drill the slave?

I did my 05 at 50K last September. The tranny output seal had already leaked, had wel my clutch actuator ros, penetrated the felt barrier and was on its wat to my clutrch.

I had no symptoms and I replaced the slave at that time.

I would first crawl under the bike and look at the slave housing. You may be lucky and already have the weep hole.

With such low miles, you can probably keep your slave cylinder. I chose to replace mine since the effort to get to it was significant.

You're probably OK to wait until winter, but, your always gambling.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
