Finally took a test ride - results...

Hi Everyone!

It was a nice day in the Mid Atlantic, I had my appointment at Bob's BMW for a ride on the LT. It was a 2008, black with 53 miles on it.

If you recall, I am 6'5 and around 325 (and dropping from 355).

Here is what I anticipated - As I ride a Road King Classic now and have 30 years of saddle time, I assumed the size and weight of the bike would be no concern at all. However, from the reviews of this bike and posts I have read I assumed the bike would fall over if I just walked by it and the final drive unit would spontaneously-combust at the end of the drive way (sorry guys picking on you over a serious issue I know but if you read a competitor forum that is what it sounds like).

I anticipated a smooth motor with a little more power higher up than my Hog. I also expected a somewhat top heavy bike that would demand precision at low speeds and half expected low speed stops to eject me from the seat again resulting in a horrible fire-related death.

Here is the reality - This bike is fine at parking lot speeds, yes, it requires a bit more throttle at launch than my Road King, but really not much more and that is rider related not bike. It can turn in a radius as well as my road king, I was just respectful of its size.

On the road it accelerates very smooth with a beautiful tome from the pipe. The trans is clunk free and easily engaged. I could clearly hear the stereo through my full face bucket. The electric windshield is HUGELY useful!!! I can raise it to the max and literally eliminate the wind - WOW!

The bike has loads of power in the high RPM range, this thing really scoots!. It was windy, so I did feel the sail effect but it was never disconcerting or felt like I was not 100% in control.

I MAY opt for lower pegs, and can see where the MOP's are needed, but I liked the stock seat so far and thought the overall comfort was exceptional!
This was a FANTASTIC experience!

Tomorrow I will try another dealer to see if they will ell off the sticker a little bit (I hate to pay full pop for this).

THANKS AGAIN for everyone's advice!

Well this is good to hear ... took me less than 20 minutes in the saddle to know I wanted one.

I am now waiting for my new one ... apparently the last batch of the current LT's are in the build process and by end of May it will be over.

A bad day on the bike beats a good day in the office.

WoW!

There isn't much comparison between a Road King and a LT.
A friend has a aniversery edition Road King.
Let me say he and I have ridden sportbikes together for many years and he is fast.
We left the house and rode down around Wolf Pen Gap and 60 down to 400 in GA.
He could not hang with the LT. He would come up to the stop signs laughing at how much of his floor boards that he was scraping off.

The Road King just can't perform like the LT.

Please rethink lowering the pegs.
Another option is the J-pegs to help you stretch out.

Once you actually own an LT you will find permagrin glued to your face every time you head into the twisties.
And that smile will be on your face each time you remove the helmet.

You'll also discover that the wheel length changes very little as you corner and hit small bumps in the road.

Plus, you'll discover that the LT is warmer in cold WX, and a LOT cooler in 100F wx. Uuuuum. The heated seats and grips are GREAT along with ABS!

I'd much rather yank the clutch apart in a HD, same for yanking out either the engine or transmission. I'm dreading fixing the leaking oil seal in my 00.
