Had to replace my RH mirror module due to a drop on soft, wet shoulder that creamed the mirror module. It was driven into the soft soil and didn't pop off because of the angles.
Anyway, I found a relatively inexpensive replacement on eBay for < $200 but it was Champagne. My bike is Basalt Gray.
After checking with some specialty bike painters who didn't really want to deal with a small job, I researched the options here and took a chance and brought it to the local body shop. I had some cage work done a few years ago after disabling a tree during an ice storm.
After explaining what it was, giving them the pieces of the old mirror and the VIN, I told them no hurry since I wasn't riding until spring.
Dropped into the paint shop yesterday afternoon and I was presented with a perfectly matched mirror assembly. However, they almost sent it to the local BMW dealer who uses the same shop for his work.
My cost was $65.00 saving close to $100 on the entire transaction.
I'm sure the mark-up would have doubled the cost of the paint job if it went through the dealer tho!
Interestingly their paint supplier (BASF) was also a Beemer rider and was familiar with the color!
Guess that's less than six degrees of separation!
