Locked 2007 Bike

I have a new '07 LT. I rode it on Friday. This morning when I went to start it I got all the dash lights on but it wouldn't start. I tried to start it a few more times with no success. I've shut the bike off and turned it on half a dozen times but it is not acting like the security system has locked me out. Any Idea what's wrong or how I might fix it. It sounds like a security system problem.

Now all the dash lights are out. All the luggage compartments are locked. When I press the unlock button on the alarm key I get 3 beeps but nothing happens.

So much for a nice Sunday ride.

Depending on how the alarm is currently programmed you may have to press one of the fob buttons just to start the bike, regardless of whether you armed the alarm or not. They come programmed from the factory in the most rider-intrusive mode that have, but the dealer can reprogram it to only arm when you manually do so to avoid all this crap.

Disconnect the battery for about an hour. Then when you reconnect it turn the key on (don't start) and roll the throttle open two or three times, turn the key off and the back on then try to start it. Mine has done this once and what a pain to get it sorted out.

I can't get to the battery because the luggage compartment is locked and I can't release the seat.

I've never had to do that before. I would just press the right side button to shut the alarm and start the bike up.

You can get to the battery with a carefully placed blade between the rider and passenger seat (the latch will release when pushed). I used a kitchen knife last July when my alarm failed to shut off. It was on until BMW Chicago towed the bike and replaced the receiver which had failed.

Just a thought from me ... if you are sure you have done everything right ... My LT did this to me a while ago and it turned out to be the battery ... I have forgotten to turn off the GPS.

Apparently the bike will not allow the starter motor to turn if the battery level falls below 80%.

It took just a short push by my friend to get the bike to start.

I connected the BMW Battery tender on and 12 hours later everything was rosie again.

A bad day on the bike beats a good day in the office.

I am of no help to you regarding your current issue; however, there are many here who I am sure will be able to help resolve your issue.
If it is any consolation it is -3 degrees here no Sunday ride today.

Ok.. here's an idea. In a nice tone, while kneeling next to your LT, explain to your bike that It's Great Great Great Grandfather HAL** was a great computer but a little mis-directed and this family tradition of locking people out has got to stop !!!

You can insert the key in to any of the locks except the glove box( oddimits box) turn about 45 degrees press the key in and to open the case lift up the latch. If it goes back to default mode after the battery disconnect you must first push the right button on the fob and start with in 30 seconds.

Trying to get my alarm programmed today, I saw the 45 degree in the lock "thing". SHould allow you to get the luggage open.

Put the key in the saddlebag lock and turn it 45 degrees. You should be able to manually open it then.

A friend of mine while visiting also had this happen. After he called the roadside assistance and they said they would be there in a few hours we thought about trying to push start it and it worked. He then shut off the bike and everything worked fine. He took it to the dealer and they just said they would check it, they found nothing.

Thanks all for the info. I tried to push start, well roll downhill start, the bike with no luck. Everything seems to be locked.

I'm still working on it. I was able to get to the battery and it shows just under 10 volts. I'm off to get a charger for the battery to see if that helps. The bike sat all day yesterday and now when I turn the key the alarm light stays on. When I press the alarm off button on the fob I get 4 beeps. Anyone know what this means? I'm going to call the company tomorrow and see if there is anyway to reset the whole system.

Again thank you for all the help. Hopefully I'll be riding this thing instead of looking at it next weekend.

If your battery is showing 10 volts then it is weak enough to cause all those electronic gremlins that you are experiencing. Don't ask how I know.

Reverse switch

Try this. Pulled out at an overlook in the Shenadoah National Park, only vehicle there, about 800 miles from home. Snapped a couple of photos, turned the key on, lights came on, hit the starter button, nothing, not a sound, lights stayed on. Turned the key off and on several times, set and unset the alarm several times, same scenario. Finally pulled out my cell phone, and thank God there is a signal. Call Grassroots BMW and tell Dave what has happened. He tells me to reach down and hit the reverse switch with my palm a couple of times and then try the starter. Hit the switch, punch the button, hear the starter engage.

Have had this happen a couple of time since on my 05 LT. I ride with my heels and ankles tight against the bike and apparently bump the reverse switch occasionally. Now, this is the first thing I check if the starter doesn't engage.

Have a look in the relevant manual to find out what the number of beebs means. Sounds to me like you have tripped the alarm system and just need to reset it, when thats done you might want to read the manual so that you can set the alarm to respond in your preferred manner.
