Unhappy Floor boards that flip up

So with the snow and ice here in the Pacific NW, I managed to drop it and break the left Darius board. I'm thinking it would be better to have a set that;s designed to flip or spring up when it comes in contact with pavement. Recommendations?

Made my own that flip up from GL 1100 boards. Bought them at a salvage for 35.00, steel for 12.00 that included square stock and round stock. Took about 4 hours to fabricate, paint, and mount. Both the boards and the mounts fold. Used them to travel from MO to FL. for Biketoberfest and back. They mounted forward and down. Added a simple heel toe shifter because the boards were too close to the shifter to get the toe of my boot under it. Didn't have any issues and easy to put feet down at stops. Very comfortable for my old joints.

Credit were credit is due. I used Darius design and adapted it to my needs.

Modify Floor Boards
I also have Darius floor boards. I used them on a 8000 mile round trip to Alaska.
The boards add a LOT of comfort on long rides. I have one recommendation after dropping my LT twice, 1st time left side and 2cd time on right side while in parking lots, one gravel the other slick new oil. Both time the floorboards were damaged since they hit the ground before the tip over wings. Darius provide excellent service and shipped replacement to Alaska for me.

I recommend you modify the mounting so the floorboards will fold up. Unmodified the floorboards will not fold up. I've attached some pictures to show the simple mod that will allow the boards to fold up if they contact the ground.

I have used the Illium boards since they first came out. I now added the Illium brake pedal. Perfect set up for me. The bike has been dropped a couple of times with no damage to the boards. My lean angle is limited and the boards will scrap in some turns but since they are hinged and spring loaded it is not a problem. Expensive but highly recommended for tall guys on long trips. I have rear boards too and my wife loves them.

I spoke with John at Illium and he's giving me a 10% discount for being law enforcement. I think they will be a great set up.
