My HF lift has a wobble just as it lifts off, first inch or two. Then things seem to firm up an the lift is stable from there to the full up position.
I haven't investigated to figure out why this is, and I don't worry about it.
(I have the air powered lift, but this issue is unrelated to the method of pumping the hydraulics, it has something to do with the scissors mechanism that lifts the table.)
If your lift is like mine, and your lift is not perfectly level, I can understand how it would tip to one side when you first start raising it and then level out after raising it a little more. Or is the bike is to one side of the lift, then the table will tip to the heavy side initially and then straighten up as the lift is raised more.
It seems there is a little more "slop" in the mechanism when the lift is just an inch or two off the full down position.
I usually keep one hand on the bike to steady it when starting the lift up.
The wobble was a little disconcerting when I first discovered it, but then I realized that there really wasn't any danger.
I do think that the lift should be pretty level and on stable footing before you put an LT on it.
I am very happy with the HF lift. The price was right and it does the job for me. But it IS a $300 lift made in China so I'm not surprised that it isn't the most precise piece of equipment.
