Extended Warranty

I have a new '08 LT and have been reading about the cost of some of your repairs on an annual basis. I am considering a 4yr extended warranty and would like to hear your thoughts on same.

Charlie.. I purchased in 2007... when I had a year left on my "factory" warranty. If you can swing it now, talk to your dealer. IF you can't get satisfaction from them, contact Lonestar BMW in Austin..

Hello,

I have an '03 LTC and went independant for my warranty. Great company called protective insurance. I have saved 2500.00 on repairs. The 4 year policy cost me less then 1000.00. The dealer will have them, but you will probably pay for their markup.

Check out the following, I would highly recommend them.

Company: Lyndon Property Insurance, CO
601 Carlson Parkway, Suite 990
Minnetonka, MN 55305
800-909-7636

Parent: Protective

See attached for a brochure of the policy I have...

Policy Name: Xtraride Plus
Their retail price when I bought it in 7/5/05 was: 1022.00
Deductible: 50.00 per incident
Coverage: All inclusive except wear items.
Purchased while bike was still under manufacturer's warranty

Extended Warranty

Unless you have the tools and knowledge to do extensive work yourself, that means at some time in the future will have a big repair bill. I sleep better with my Pinacle policy I got from my dealer. I waited until 3 weeks before the factory warranty expired. If you can afford it, do it.

This is my first BMW and for peace of mind I bought the 4 year extended insurance. It covers the whole bike. I haven't had to use it yet, and it was hard to write the check, but it sure feels good to have it. dwillie.

Can be a lifesaver

I bought a LT and a 1150gs with the western service contract. $25 transfer fee and covers the entire bike except the normal wear items (tires battery etc.). My '00 lt needed to have the throttle cables replaced and they didn't blink at the R&R bill. Have 4 years left on the GS and sure feels good to have the security. Just like Vegas, you pays your money and takes your chances.

Thanks for the information. I checked with my dealer and he said I could purchase the extended warranty anytime as long as my bike is still in factory warranty.

My Pinnacle was just about $1200, cause the new warranty was ready to expire I had to pay a $75 charge and the ABS was $120 more. About $.80 a day and very good if I want to sell it down the road.

I have had two claims against Pinnacle and they have paid both bills quite quickly. I would recommend the extended warranty. I bought it from OKC BMW and they have done the replacement work. I think the cost was $1100 for several years and I included the ABS which was the first claim I made for an ABS pump
and the claim was for more than I paid for the extended warranty.

Re: Extended Warranty

Heard from local dealer that Pinnacle WILL NOT cover the electric windshield or the centerstand on an LT. I am conversing with another warranty company, Protective, who offer the XtraRide program. These folks have indicated THEY WILL cover the electric windshield and centerstand, which is great news!! Anybody had any dealings with Protective??? Any help would be appreciated....

Has anyone bought one out of warranty? And the cost?
Thanks

Re: Extended Warranty

I bought my '06 with an extended warranty from Western. I would not have bought a used LT that I planned to keep & ride for years without one.

Re: Extended Warranty

My dealer is offering Zurich for an extended warranty product on my 05. Anyone know anything about Zurich. The dealer is using Zurich as that is also his commercial insurance company.

Where'd you get it? The warranty on my 2005 expired on 10/1/07 and for a month before, I called everybody in L.A. (and O.C.) to get an extended warranty. No one would sell it to me (Hollywood, Irv Seaver, etc). They all said I didn't need it!

Now I'm nervous. Can I buy it 6 months after the warranty expired? It's been in the shop to fix some minor stuff (if you call a leaky transmission output shaft seal minor) and all service is up to date.

People here seem to buy Pinnacle or Protective. Has anyone here seen a clear cut difference?

TIA

Re: Extended Warranty

The time to buy an extended warrant is when your buying the bike (or car). The dealer has about 1/2 of the asking price in the warranty. You can definately negotiate the price down. You can't expect them to sell it at cost . But $150 over cost as opposed to 100% mark-up is still a profit for them and a savings for you.

Re: Extended Warranty

RPM-one that I purchased through Eugene, OR offers a policy for out of factory warranty bikes. It does cost more and there is some manner of inspection required, but Tom (sales person) said it they do offer one that would be higher then new. He said that they would take the word of the BMW dealer in my area and would not require the cross country trip for inspection.

Give Tom a call and see what he can do.
