Newbie says Hi....

Hello folks...I just joined this board as I will be the owner a 2003 K1200LT as of Wednesday, 11/8/07. I have a 2002 Honda VTX 1800-R for sale if anyone is interested. I am not new to BMW however as I currently own a 2006 330i and a 2007 X3. These "ultimate driving machines" are what promted me to shop for the K1200LT.
I will be lurking around and attempting to increase my knowledge...thanks in advance for all the info.
Ride Safe!

Welcome

Hi,

Welcome to the group.

You are in a great place. Read the Halls of wisdom, use the strong search engine to learn as much as you can.

Check to see if you have a "weep hole" drilled in your slave cylinder cavity. If you don't, you stand a "good" risk of loosing a clutch. Not a huge task (about 5 or 6 hours) but worth it for the piece of mind at least.

Welcome, "just ride it" and when you do "ride it like you stole it".

Thumbs up Welcome

Based on my experience with the fellows on this site, you're gonna enjoy the company.

No dumb questions, just ask or search for an answer.

I did and learned a lot.

Happy riding....if you have a SO , she'll love it (the site and the LT)too!

Bought used K1200LT number 3. This one is green/teal with 31,369(now 7/29/2018 54,143) miles and is an '02. The first 2 bikes made it to near 150,000 miles.

Due to heart health, the Dr says not to ride under 40 degree air temp. Ugh! Now it is harder to get my 18000 miles a year in just in the summer. Guess that stopped my 20 degree rides now.

You are will find these guys a great group and willing to help.

The wealth of written knowledge is mind boggling and well worth the cost of admission.

I came from a VTX 1800R too.. They are both good bikes. The weight of the 1800R will help you manage the weight of the LT. I find the LT much more fun in the twisties, and much more comfortable on 700+ mile days.
I do miss my X though on shorter runs with a group. I can't explain it. I don't know if you visited VTXOA (the VTX owners forum) Its a good place to try and sell your X. Its also a great site for VTX info.
You will love the LT. I had my VTX for 2 years and put 15,000 miles on it. I've had the LT since July and put 7,000 on it. Should get a few hundred in today..
Welcome to the board.

Welcome, you will love the LT, keep an eye on the board for a Tech Session in your area. In one day you will learn more about you LT than you can from reading.

Also check out the Curve Cowboy Reunion (CCR).

Wow

Well, I took ownership of my '03 K1200LT at 3:30 this afternoon....I was rollin' before 4:00 and...well....WOW. I have ridden cruisers for years (still have the '02 VTX) but this was quite an experience! I had her out in the horse farm country around Lexington, KY and the handling was fabulous. I was cornering at speeds that I wasn't used to but didn't really feel like I was going that much faster. Pretty cool.
I am beginning to understand the posts I have read on this board the last few days. I am looking forward to many pleasurable miles.
Ride Safe!

You said something about cornering at speeds you were not used to. I've had the same "awakening." Picked up a ticket last month, first one is many years. I still can't believe I was at 72mph. You really have to be aware of your speeds because it seems like you are going so much slower with the LT vs. the VTX.
I find myself passing cages and other bikes wondering why is everyone going so slow??
Glad you are enjoying the LT!
