Newbie Introduction

In late September I flew to Naples FL and purchased a used 2003 K1200LT/Hannigan trike. I rode the LT from Naples to my home in Durango, CO. It was a great ride with the one exception of being run off the freeway in Florida. I flew into the air and landed in the median so hard both mirrors came off. I didn't realize the mirrors were gone until I was back on the interstate and recovered my composure enough to notice. I went back to look but wasn't lucky enough to find them in the tall grass. When I got home and discovered how much the mirrors cost I regret not stopping and walking the entire median. Dang.

This is my third BMW and about my eighth bike since 1964. I am 62.

In June of this year I rode my Honda VTX1800R on a six thousand mile ride that included Yosemite, the North Cascades Highway, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and the Flaming Gorge. I will try to sell the VTX and ride the BMW on my next big adventure.

I look forward to enjoying this BMW riders website. Thanks for making the website available.

Welcome aboard. It sounds like you've already learned two valuable lessons..

1. Keep the mirrors teathered
2. There are a lot of bad drivers here in Flatland.

With the trike conversion, you won't have to learn about FD failures.

Thanks for the welcome -- and those looking to replace a final drive should consider the outfits who convert trikes. They would want to do something with the final drives the remove. I purchased my with some miles on it.

Hannigan might be a great source for an FD.
