Interesting test ride: Victory Vision , how does it compare?

Well I was able to ride a brand new Victory Vision touring package (base bike) the other day .

It was the Black Cherry color and the paint looked really nice. The bikes riding position is Cruiser/tourer and VERY comfy for my 6'1" tall frame , lots of leg room, this is a big plus(no need for highway pegs). Unique styling (some love it some no so much). The details give it a nice high quality feel (gauges , backlighting, chrome etc.) Cruise worked nicely though the pod for its use hangs under the bars (not as nicely integrated into the swithchwork like our LT's). Motor was supprisingly smooth for a big V Twin , not HD like at all. 6 speed tranny and clutch worked very well also . Low end torque was decent though nothing stunning , top end power was mild (my 100 hp LT will out run it ). Low speed handling was VERY NICE , bike didnt feel at all top heavy like my LT and it had the same nice bumpers if you drop the bike (our LT's are more integrated and came out nearly 10 years earlier!). Brakes were very nice but lack ABS even as an option (this is a BIG negative for me-even HD has ABS these days). Rear air suspension pretty nice ....Cornering clearance was suprisingly good , I was impressed by how much she could lean over. Bike sounded really nice not too loud not too quiet. Pretty good amount of options and pricing was pretty fair with top of the line model going for MSRP $22K . Generally pretty nice ride.....but.......

Side panniers are very small , look big and swoopy outside VERY small inside (big thumbs down, LT's are much larger). Top trunk is decent size though not as good as LT. Power should have been stronger IMHO, Wing will positively steam roll this thing. No ABS as mentioned , not good. Stereo was OK , expected better quality sound - liked MP3 hookup though. NO CENTER STAND, this is a big no no on a touring bike. Still air/oil cooled , this can be tough in some conditions (high temps when fully loaded).

Amazing how much was like our LT's : tip over bumpers, radio position and operation very similar, fuel filler in exact same spot, computer has almost exact same functions , electric windscrean nice (my tester didnt have it ).

Nice bike , especially for a cruiser and for a Victory . I am sure it will be refined through its life cycle.

Love the Vision or hate it, competition is always good for the consumer.

I look forward to riding one.

Test ride

I test rode a few months ago. I liked it. Do'nt if I would buy one. My radio had issues, but the rep stated they were working on the problem. My radio kept losing the sat. station getting nothing but buzz.

Like the seating postion and the 106 engine, lack of ABS was not good. If my BMW dealer closed and a Victory dealer opened, maybe.

Victory made this bike to compete with the LT. I saw it at the bikes, blues & BBQ rally in Fayettville AR a few weeks ago and I really liked the look of it but we could not test ride it. If BMW is phazing out the LT as mentioned on another post, I am sure Victory will love that by giving them a better share of the market place.

I read in one fo the mags that one of the Vision designers was a BMW designer that worked on the LT. No surprise that the Vision is so similar to the LT. Not that I'll buy one, but I do like the Vision.

I like the idea of the futuristic appearance, much like the LT. I like the current generation of the Wing, too. Wish the LT had dual headlights. That would be about the only improvement I would make to the LT's appearance.

I demo rode one at Biketoberfest. For me, the engine had too much vibration. I really liked the iPod interface for the radio, wish BMW would put that on their bikes as their cars.

Very comfortable seat, prob one of the best stock ones I've sat on.

I heard that also and one can see the similarities when you get on one. But it is not for me yet.
