Broken Part In Trunk

The flip down door inside the trunk lid broke on my 02 LT. Or to be more specific, one of the plastic hinges that hold it in place broke.

Does anyone know if this can be replaced or if it's a part of the top of the trunk?

I haven't had time to look at it closely yet, probably this weekend. I'd hate to think you had replace the entire lid of the trunk to fix it.

Gary;

That has happened to me twice. You can order just the little door/mirror, but you will be better off to order the bottom piece also. You can go to Maxbmw and look at the microfich and order online. Great people to deal with and fast shipping. Not too bad as far as cost maybe 50$ I dont remember now.

That's The Ticket

Thanks Zeke,

Perfect. From the diagram it looks like the only part I need to fix it this time is the partition, that's where the hinge broke. It's only $11. I didn't know you could buy anything for this bike for that little.

It will break again. Just throw it away. You won't notice it's gone.

Lotsa folks have grabbed a 4" piano hinge at the beeg box store and modified the hinge so it won't break again. I snapped off the excess threads on the brass screw, inside the compartment, so it wouldn't scratch anythang in there. Been like this for maybe 6 years or so.

I followed Dick's lead about a year ago and now I have no problems. Worked like a charm.

Neat Idea

I'll try it this week end. Sounds like a nearly permanent Fix.

I like the idea of getting rid of that plastic hinge.
