Just bought a 1999 K1200lt-need advice

I have owned a few Bmws but the K1200Lt is new to me. It is a 1999 with 11,000 miles on it. I bought it from a dealer(its still there) and I wanted advice on what service I should ask the dealer for? I still can work out a few details with the purchase. Is there a 10,000 mile service? When I leave what service should I be looking for. I have asked for the service records and should see them soon. thanks Jim

Make sure the skid plate has been installed.
99s came with a defective starter relay, they fuse closed when the battery voltage drops. BMW came out with a replacement relay.
99s came with a defective designed computer chip. When temps hit mid 80s, the engine hesitates. BMW came out with reprogrammed chips to correct this.
Note: the speedo, by design, reads higher than actual speed. .9 times reading is close to your actual speed. Speedo can be moded to be accurate.
If the 99 wasnít ordered with heated seats, the wiring harness doesnít come with a plug for a heated seat.

Many people replace the low beam with a HID. My low beam was good for about 30mph.

Have FUN with your new ride.

Thumbs up

You will also notice that informal tech sessions are held regularly in several areas of the US. If you fill in you member info, we might be able to point you toward one of these tech sessions. They are usually posted on the regional boards.

Since it is a '99, have the dealer insure that the radio was updated with the later firmware. Early '99's had an issue with the radio running the battery down even if turned off. A firmware change was made to correct it, radios had to be swapped out with ones that had been upgraded.
