OEM vs. Aftermarket HID (questions never asked before)
I've been installing HID kits in my bikes for about 5 years.
From reading past posts and looking at online fiche, I have the following questions:
1. Does BMW use a standard H4 Xenon bulb (with the standard 3 tab bayonet mounting)?
2. Does BMW use the standard ignitor and balast connections? Although there are lots of proprietary versions of the connectors, the ones from Hella are pretty much standard. I have an old Catz kit in my ZX-12R and it's the same connectors as the Hella ones. I've seen these on about 80% of the kits out there.
Here's what I'm trying to do:
As you probably know, installing Xenon bulbs is only half the equation. The other half is the reflector (headlight nacell) it sits into. Car headlights almost all use projectors - reflective devices in the housing which send the light out further, with great control (cut off) of the light.
So can I change the reflector to the '07 version and keep my Hella bulb, balast and ignitor?
Has anyone tried this who can tell us what improvement there is?
