Question Rear drive play or clearance

I had read on a thread or two to check the rear drive occasionally by grabbing the rear wheel on each side and trying to move it side to side. I tried this and the rear wheel moved ever so slightly.... a few thousandths... so I am curious to what extent is the movement considered a problem with the bike considered unrideable that is safely. Just wondered if we are talking 32nd or more play before worry? Just curious. Thanks

Also be sure that it is the drive gear that is moving and not the rear drive pivot bearings. This can be checked by holding the brake caliper as you wiggle the rear wheel. If there is movement relative to the caliper it is the drive bearing. If there is no relative movement at the caliper but the wheel moves it is the pivot bearings where the drive mounts to the swing arm. The latter is less trouble and cost.

I know I did not answer the question but mine does not move at all 27K on an 05.
