Extended warranty question

Any idea what a reasonable price for an extended warranty for an '06 might be? Dealer's kind enough to offer one, but at a price...

I think the going rate for aftermarket repair insurance policies (hate to call them warranties because BMW has nothing to do with them), has been around $900-1,000 for 3 years of coverage. Not bad when you have an ABS failure ($1,700 unit price not counting labor) make sure ABS is covered as not all do. Center stand actuator $950. And the list goes on. You gotta choose which path is right for you. My factory warranty is up the 5th of June and I am going to bank my $900 and let it earn interest.

Extended Warranty

I have a 2005 LT that turned 36,000 miles at the end of Sep 2006 and at that time I purchased Pinnacle extended warranty. It cost me $1,197.43. Last week the rear drive had to be replaced and the bill was a little over $1,500.00. Pinnacle paid all but the $25.00 deductable and the next day air, which was around $80.00 and the fluid, which these items the warranty does not pay. I have got my money back and have coverage until March of 2011. I debated to buy extended warranty but as long as I ride BMW's I will buy extended warranty. I would not on any other bike. You have to like a BMW to own one.

I have one from cycle express. It cost me 700.00 for 3 years on my 03 ltc. It has a 50.00 deductable and has very, very few exclusions. Just used it on a fork seal replacement and it saved me between 400 - 500.00. No hickup with the payment and the dealer worked it out entirely with the insurance company. My only bill was the 50.00 deductible. That is the way it should work ....

To answer Deacon's earlier question - $2K minimum to self insure.

$1,200 at 3.5% yields roughly $1429 over 5 years, while $2,000 yields $2,380 - much closer to some of the bills I've seen mentioned.

Of course, that also assumes one doesn't stumble over a farkle that is a must have during that five year period. I have LOTS of will power, but not that much WON'T power....
