Cool wobble

I traded my R1200C for a new K1200lt and now I am thinking I may have made a mistake. I am another victime of the infamous "wobble" between 40-50mph; starts with a shimmy and if let go the wobble would increase to a full catastrophe. With all the acknowledgement and theories how can BMW not recall and figure this out? very dangerous

Wobble

I found that couple of times the head shake has caught me my front tire pressure was at or just below 36. I got a suggestion to run it up to 42 and it not only cured the wobble but also smoothed out the little bit of scalloping that I was getting on the front tire. Definitely check your front tire pressure and see if small changes help.

Bosko, fill in the profile thingy...please.

It is possible there is someone nearby who can help evaluate this problem with you... if we know you are somewhere other than "in cyberspace".

Bosko,

I too had the head shake but it was NOT BMWs fault. I had installed a slightly out of round Metz 880 on the front. When I replaced it 12K later I had a good tire this time and the head shake is now gone. Check your tires for wear and roundness - you may be surprised.

Bosko,

I used to have the same issue. Is it under warranty? Here are some things to look at. For me changing the lower ball joint fixed this issue and it was all taken care of under warranty.

Things to check:

1. Tires: Changing the tires has fixed this for "some" people.
a. balanced?
b. air pressure?
c. shape of the tire?

2. Lower Ball Joint: Fixed this issue for me.
a. I think the part# is 31 42 7 681 040 for the new joint and 31 42 2 330 996 for the NUT

3. Steering damper.

Good luck. Hope this helps. Oh, and after you get this fixed you'll have no doubt about what a great ride the LT really is. ~darren
